Next Steps Conference a Success

by Rev. Karen Hunter

Seventy-five people representing all corners of the Diocese of Idaho

gathered in Twin Falls on Saturday, May 17, to complete the Appreciative Inquiry process begun two years ago as part of Transition Planning.  The task was to set a clear course for the months ahead.

Following prayer and meditation, participants began by reviewing the Provocative Propositions written by the Diocesan Convention in October.  These statements articulate those issues and ministries that members of the diocese find most compelling.   After sharing their own stories and revisiting the issue from their experience, teams gathered to articulate two year vision statements.  From this work came specific steps to be taken immediately in the diocese.   Finally, the Provocative Propositions were combined and edited to provide a clear, concise vision.

All participants then committed to some personal action at a parish, individual of diocesan level.

In concluding worship, Bishop Bainbridge commended those present for their courageous commitment to this visionary work.

“I am proud of my work here,” he said, “when I look at you!”  He went on the commend the group for their dedication to living out their baptismal covenant and for taking responsibility for setting the future course for their diocese, thereby inviting the new bishop to “walk with us”.
